Dazed and Confused

By Pippa Edelen, Runco Marketing
I agree with the Washington Post, which noted that that Dazed and Confused ought to be in a prominent place at the Library of Congress, next to The Godfather, American Graffiti, Citizen Kane and other quintessentially American works. Like all those films, Dazed reflects American culture so well, it becomes part of it. And it’s the only movie I’ve ever seen where I wished I went to high school in a Dallas suburb where seniors initiate freshman with a series of toosh whoopings with a custom paddle.

I was born in the mid-seventies, but this is a movie my contemporaries and I want to assume is a historic document of life when Kiss and Alice Cooper transitioned us between Ford and Carter.

Debuting my freshman year of college (and just a year too late for us to emulate the “Seniors” shirts and knee socks during my own senior-year brou-ha-ha), Dazed was the one escape that never failed to please. When dollars were scarce among my new college freshman friends, we opted to skip the pizza and hop to the Bijou (a dilapidated church complete with a creepy fellowship courtyard and LED-lights in the fountain). Nearly 20 years later, I can’t skip over this movie when it’s on TV, even though I own the DVD. This is not a cinematic life-changer and watching it at home on a Runco flat screen display with my fridge and microwave close by may actually beat the Bijou in Eugene, OR. And perhaps adding a new twist to this fan favorite? Identifying the huge stars with bit parts in the movie. Can you find Renee Zellweger?Hint, while Wooderson gets older, she stays the same age… Dazed is a definite must watch.

Leading Lady

In the 2006 movie “The Holiday” with Cameron Diaz, Judd Law, and Jack Black, there is a great scene with Kate Winslet and Eli Wallach, who plays Arthur, a retired movie screenwriter.  He advises her to be bold and to become the “leading lady” of her own life.  That she shouldn’t be acting like the supporting character or “best friend,” but should take control of her life.

I have been asked several times recently if Runco products were only for celebrities.  They have seen the magazine write-ups or have talked to a dealer, and that leads them to believe that only famous actors, musicians, or real estate moguls own Runco products in their luxury homes.  Although we love our high-profile clients and appreciate that they have invited our products into their homes, but I can assure you our client-base is not exclusively celebrities.

For every famous recording artist, there are dozens of pediatricians or veterinarians who have created exceptional entertainment spaces in their homes.  For every movie director, there are electrical engineers or marketing managers who want a place to relax and recharge and their Runco product is in the center of their experience.

But one thing is common; the Runco customer is the leading lady or leading man of their own life.  They want to create remarkable spaces and build memories in their home.  They want to open their homes to friends and family or they want to create a personal entertainment space that is unique to their tastes and style.  In any case, they want to create a lifestyle that reflects them completely.

This is what Runco provides through our exceptional video products and the services of our authorized dealers.  It is nothing short of remarkable.  It is nothing short of what a leading lady deserves.

Reflecting on the launch of the WindowWall ColourPalette and our legacy in the home theater, I am reminded that it is the responsibility and privilege of the Runco dealer to use technology, specifically Runco video products, to propose a way of living to their clients.
