Runco Staff Review - No Country for Old Men

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

by Thomas Aquino

Directors, producers, and screenwriters, Joel and Ethan Coen, created a great visual interpretation of the 2005 Cormac McCarthy novel, No Country for Old Men. The plot follows that of the novel with the addition of capturing the visual aspect of the open Texas landscape, which is beyond spectacular on the new Runco Q-750d LED projector because of its ability to dial colors and add dimensionality and depth to every image. Combine that with the building tension through silent scenes and deliberate sound effects and the cinematography easily allows the audience to feel the calm pace and simple world of a small town.

The cast portrays each character accurately to their surrounding and assumed upbringing.  Sheriff Bell (Tommy Lee Jones) has clearly upheld the law in the small Texas town through community relationships rather than brute force. Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) has worked hard for the life he leads and when presented with what seems to be an easy bonus, he takes it on the grounds of providing for his family.

This movie left me wanting to see more of a glimpse into Anton Chigurh’s (Javier Bardem) life and how his psychopathic thoughts lead him to that small Texas town.
