Runco Set sail as Platinum Sponsor of Home Theater Cruise™ 2005

2.35:1 Technology Seminar Highlights Technology Conference at Sea

UNION CITY, CALIF — November 22, 2005 — With memories of the4th annual Home Theater Cruise™ casting a warm glow on the horizon, Runco International played a big part in ensuring this year’s event was the best yet. The manufacturer of world-class video projectors, flat-panel displays, and image processing technology, was once again a Platinum sponsor for the cruise; a gathering of home theater industry movers and shakers as well as consumer enthusiasts, for several days of sun, entertainment, and conferencing while traveling the sunny Eastern Caribbean waters. Runco’s sponsorship helped to provide hundreds of participants with the entertainment, education, and networking that attract an excited crowd every year. The 2005 Home Theater Cruise™ departed from Port Canaveral, Florida on October 29.

“My love for the home audio and video industry continues to grow because the people in this business create events that make working fun, like the Home Theater Cruise™,” says Sam Runco, founder and CEO of Runco International. “This year, we chose to be Platinum sponsors because everyone at Runco so thoroughly enjoys the cruise and supports its goals. It’s a much more relaxed atmosphere than the typical trade show, where we all rush from meeting to meeting. When you take the office on board a cruise ship, you have time to slow down and enjoy spending time with everyone while getting work done. I can’t wait to get back on the water next year when we sail the Mexican Riviera.”

Runco Sponsors Home Theater Cruise 2005

On this year’s Home Theater Cruise™, Runco International presented a course on creating true, cinematic widescreen entertainment in the home. By using special anamorphic lenses, as with the award-winning CineWide™ with AutoScope™ technology recently incorporated on several of their higher-end projectors, Runco showed how home theater designers can produce a 2.35:1 film aspect ratio for home cinema performance that maintains constant screen height with no black bars above or below the actual film.

This exciting new technology, a Runco International exclusive for home cinema, not only captures the look and feel of a true cinematic experience, but the advancement in technology also permits, for the first time in home theater, the use of all pixels in the projector’s light engine to be used to reproduce pictures unsurpassed in color, contrast and clarity. Without wasting pixels that would otherwise have to be sacrificed for those annoying black bars, Runco International’s CineWide™ with AutoScope™ technology provides uncompromised renditions of your favorite films.

One of Sam Runco’s personal favorite causes is the Elf Foundation, which holds an annual live charity auction on board the Home Theater Cruise™. The Elf Foundation is a non-profit charity that works within the industry to create special entertainment theaters in children’s hospitals, autism centers, shelters for abused kids, and other facilities where sick children cannot get out to the movies. Runco International graciously donated a CL-810 video projector for the auction, and with the help of other Home Theater Cruise™ corporate sponsors, helped generate over $52,000 for Elf’s continuing work.

“The Elf Foundation is a great cause, and while Runco has played a key role from their inception, I’m really glad to see so many other companies getting involved and stepping up to the plate,” said Sam Runco. “When you think of what a magical night at the movies means to some young child stuck in the hospital, it makes sense that we pull together as an industry and do our part in bringing just a little relief to that anxious situation.”
