As many of you may have heard, Planar, Inc. announced today that it has acquired Runco International. Planar has a company philosophy akin to what Runco has always stood for – excellence in technology, outstanding quality and service and dedicated focus to its custom channel partners. This union will create an unstoppable force in custom home theater and accelerate the vision for all three brands. As a founding CEDIA member and as the CEO and founder of Runco, I am excited about what this means for the future.

You’ve supported my family for nearly two decades and we’re going to continue to be here to support you. This acquisition will serve to make the Runco and Vidikron brands globally stronger, by leveraging Planar’s proven quality and service, excellence in technology innovation and dedicated focus to its custom channel partners.

While this acquisition combines the many market strengths of Planar Systems, Inc. and Runco International, the brands, products, sales and partner strategies remain unchanged. Planar is not looking to replace the Runco or Vidikron line, but to strengthen all three brands in the custom high-end home theater market.

This is a thrilling time for all of us. By leveraging Planar’s proven expertise in manufacturing, supply chain management, quality control, and global support this acquisition will only serve to make the Runco and Vidikron brands bigger, better and even more influential.

The faces you know are still here; Bob Hana, Greg Caves, Jim McGall, and Rick Bergamaschi will continue to be a cornerstone to this business. And I will continue to be involved with Planar as we build on the success of Runco and Vidikron. Please know the decision to sell my namesake brand did not come lightly, but with an eye toward a better, brighter future for each of us.
