The Genuine Fight
Tuesday, May 10, 2011May 10, 2011
I was reading a post from a favorite blogger of mine recently who referenced an interview with furniture designer, George Nakashima. He lamented that “it requires a genuine fight to product one well-designed object of relatively permanent value.” This is so true.
At Runco we take pride in our craftsmanship, even if that means that things take a bit longer to deliver than big-box commodity equivalents (something George called “the flood of consumer goods” in 1962). It takes a genuine fight to defend the simplicity, the quality, and the uncommon performance of great design.
George’s designs are very organic, reusing bits of wood to create profiles inspired by nature. We use materials like metal, glass, and, of course, elegant designs of our circuit boards and software to create well-designed objects that have distinct value. While electronics aren’t permanent, due to evolving standards and innovations over time, a Runco product does reflect the passion of our clients and customers for the fight for excellence.
Shimmery, Metallic Signature Colors
Friday, April 15, 2011
“Seen all over the runway and at key home furnishings trade shows this past season, metallics speak to our desire to have luxury and glamour in our lives,” says Leatrice Eiseman, who is the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, a leading authority on color trends.
Eiseman discussed the emergence of metallic color trends in Pantone's TONES Newsletter in late 2010: “The wide variety of gold metallic shades we have seen in the past is still out there; however, as we move forward to 2011 we are seeing consumers turning away from excessive glitz and "bling" and instead moving toward metallic finishes and treatments that appear warmer. Artful patterning, mottled finishes and distressed or etching techniques are some of the new surface treatments being applied to the standard gold, silver and bronze metallic shades, as well as to color. The ongoing interest in combining different metallic shades is a trend we also see continuing for 2011.”
The metallics that make up the Signature Color collection for Runco’s FinishPalette for projectors and flat panel displays are great examples of these trends. Metal shades like silver, copper, and gold, as well as jewel tones, come to life in a subtle sparkle that adds depth and richness. Just as Leatrice suggests, we can combine metallics to create a unique duo-tone look on the LightStyle projectors, for instance.
