Outstanding Product of the Year 2011: Runco LS10D

Before deciding on the Runco LightStyle 10D - the LS10D home theater projector, as our product this year, I looked around, for potential products that we reviewed (two have not been stand alone projectors), I'm usually looking for something that is a little disruptive.
The Runco LightStyle LS-5 costs a packet, but its performance with HD is glorious
08-Feb-2012: What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision by
"The LS-5 has a wonderfully subtle way with colours, combining richness with naturalness in a way rarely seen. Edges are defined with pleasing stability, which helps the projector when it comes to revealing fine detail – like, say, the individual blades of grass on Walt Kowalski's lawn or the subtle shadows on his (always immaculately clean) Ford Gran Torino."

Exclusive hands-on with Runco's Q-750d LED projector, where colour is redefined
18-Dec-2009: Home Cinema choice.com by Steve May
Runco is the latest high-end projector manufacturer to launch an LED projector. Using a solid state light path and no lamp, the new QuantumColor Q-750d has an indefatigable life span, which promises to make things a lot easier for demanding PJ owners. It's also relatively affordable (at least in the rarefied atmosphere that Runco traditionally operates in) at just under $18K. But can an LED projector with a limited light output compete with high-end DLP, D-ILA and LCD alternatives? After spending some time with it, I would say so.

Home Theater: Runco LS-5 DLP Projector

LCOS designs have dominated front projection news and reviews in recent years. But with LED-based DLPs proliferating and the arrival of an excellent lamp-driven projector that’s competitively priced like the Runco LS-5, it’s apparent that DLP ain’t done yet. We don’t know whether 3D projectors will be in the market this fall—or if they’ll be any good. We do know that 3D content will be scarce. In the here and now, the Runco LS-5 projector has no significant weaknesses, offers exceptional out-of-box performance, and is a really strong value. Well done Runco, and highly recommended! Planar Expands Clarity Matrix Video Wall Line with Two New Ultra-Narrow Bezel Models
New 3.7mm bezel models make award-winning Clarity Matrix the most comprehensive
line of video wall displays in the market
Planar announced two new ultra-narrow bezel LCD models in its line of Clarity™ Matrix LCD Video Wall System with G2 Architecture, bringing superior visual performance to an even wider variety of video wall applications.
The two new Clarity Matrix with G2 Architecture options include a 46" model with 800 nits brightness and a 55" model with 500 nits brightness. The new models feature a tiled bezel width of just 3.7mm (0.15 inches) between adjacent LCD displays for a near-seamless image. In addition to the new offerings, Planar has also extended video and power transmission capabilities on its entire family of Clarity Matrix LCD Video Wall models to support distances of 500 feet (150 meters).
Earlier this year, Planar set new technological benchmarks with the introduction of its new G2 Architecture for the Clarity Matrix LCD Video Wall family, as well as its first LED LCD video wall model with a tiled bezel width of 3.7 mm. Now, with the additional ultra-narrow bezel models, as well as Planar’s interactive touch and 3D models, the award-winning Clarity Matrix family of LCD video wall solutions features the broadest line of ultra-narrow bezel displays in the industry.
“Customer reaction to Clarity Matrix with G2 Architecture has been incredibly positive,” said Jennifer Davis, vice president of marketing at Planar Systems. “The addition of new Clarity Matrix models with smaller tiled bezel width gives Planar the broadest product offering in the LCD video wall category and opens up new applications for our high-performance technology.”
Unique Design Delivers Slim Profile and Mission-Critical Reliability
Clarity Matrix with G2 Architecture video wall displays are built for 24/7 reliability in the most mission-critical control room environments, as well as digital signage.
“The addition of the new thinner bezel 46" and 55" Clarity Matrix models allows resellers to offer customers more options for smaller bezel video walls and expands the market for LCD video walls,” said Bill Apter, senior consultant with Avitecture, Inc., an audiovisual integrator in Sterling, Virginia. “The Clarity Matrix with G2 Architecture system delivers no-compromise visual performance with superb image quality, perfectly aligned panels, ultra high resolution and allowed us to reduce installation costs for our customers.”
The expanded line-up offers even more flexibility to meet a wide variety of installation challenges. The Clarity Matrix video wall system design eliminates the need for AC power outlets behind the displays. With the electronics and power supply off-board, the weight, depth, heat and potential points of failure can be placed in a convenient location for easy maintenance. Built-in video extension capabilities have been expanded so electronics can be co-located with the source up to 500 feet (150 meters) away from the video wall. A single remote power supply module can power up to six displays.
Together, the technological advances and award-winning design of Clarity Matrix gives customers a comprehensive, cutting-edge video wall system designed to reduce total-cost-of-ownership.
The new Clarity Matrix MX46HDU and LX55HDU models are available through Planar’s global network of authorized resellers and will begin shipping in calendar Q4 2014. Visit Planar’s YouTube channel to watch a video about Clarity Matrix with G2 Architecture.

Runco LightStyle Projectors Recieve Rave Review
14-Oct-2010: Widescreen Review by Terry Paulin
Runco is thrilled to announce a glowing review of it's LightStyle™ LS-3 and LightStyle™ LS-5 projectors from Widescreen Review.
With pages of test results on everything from contrast ratio to the color accuracy done with CalMan SpectraCal equipment, WSR boasts:
"Runco has hit it out of the park with this product. One could even worry that they may have cannibalized some high-end business with the extraordinary value proposition offered here. To those who thought the rarified air of high-quality front projection was filled with only products made from unaffordium, think again. To get visibly higher image quality than offered by the LS-5, be prepared to spend four to five times its retail price. Spot-on colorimetry, ruler flat gray scale, high-quality optics, and every "tweak" necessary for an ultimate calibration, and all for less than what we paid for a decent flat panel last year, yields a new high water mark for both performance and value ... ... it does seem like a non-sequitur, doesn't it.”

Runco LS-5 Review
18-Mar-2010: Secrets of Home Theater by Chris Eberle
"Runco has always been known for its high-end, no-compromise designs. They have been an innovator since day one and their projectors have a stellar reputation. The LS-5 represents a new entry-level model for them. In my opinion they have put out an excellent product that more than deserves the Runco label. Color accuracy is excellent right out of the box. Installation is flexible with its two lens choices and generous shift capability. Light output is more than adequate for a small to medium-sized rooms. Optical quality is top-shelf with a very sharp and precise lens. Build quality is also top-of-the-line and rivals a few more expensive projectors I’ve worked with. The LS-5’s control options are also a cut above most with the inclusion of an IR input; something I’ve seen on no other projector. All in all, I’d say Runco has given the market something to think about. If you’re shopping for a projector in the $5,000-$10,000 range, the LS-5 merits serious consideration. I give it a very high recommendation." Read the entire article...
Art of Home Theater Reviews the Runco LS-7
25-May-2010: The Art of Home Theater by Art Feierman
No, this won’t be a religious discussion, despite the OMG. It’s been a 4 year struggle to convince Runco to let me review one of their projectors. Oh, I did review the top of the line (at the time) Planar a couple of years ago (the 8150, a single chip), but never a Runco – or Vidikron three chip DLP. In fact, the only 3 chip DLP home theater projector I’ve ever reviewed is the SIM2 C3X several years ago. That was a 720p projector.
Well, guess what? The Runco LS-7 is a three chip, 720p resolution DLP projector. Read the entire review here...

Runco Q-750i Review
21-Apr-2010: Home Entertainment by David Birch-Jones
Summary: In short, Runco has a pair of winners here. They’re premium-priced relative to many other 1080p single-chip front projectors, but are actually priced less than predecessor CRT-powered models that were de rigueur in top-end home theater systems a decade or so ago. With the on-board automatic self-calibration system, owners can be assured of consistent picture quality over a very long operating lifespan. The picture quality itself is typically Runco, which is typically excellent.

Runco Q750i DLP Projector with LED Illumination
22-Sep-2010: Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity by Chris Eberle
Often reviews about the newest technologies end with phrases like “shows great promise” or “maybe in a generation or two…” Not so with the Runco Q750i. This projector is a standard-bearer right out of the gate. Its solid build quality speaks to the seriousness of its intent. This is not merely the first try for an LED projector. There is no reason not to consider this real competition for any bulb-based model. Light output is strong with plenty of lumens for a medium-sized theater. Performance and color accuracy is at reference level. With the Q you can have a no-compromise display with color stability and no bulb changes for the life of the product. Plus if you see rainbows with single-chip DLP, you won’t have to incur the considerable expense of a three-chip model since the Q has no color wheel. My take – the next great revolution in projector technology has arrived in the form of the LED. Perhaps bulbs will go the way of the CRT thanks to manufacturers like Runco. The Q750i earns my highest recommendation.

13-Sep-2010: Home Theater Review.com by Andrew Robinson
Overall, I found the Q-750i to be a more than capable performer, definitely a leader in its class. More surprising was the fact that I felt that the Q-750i competed favorably and in some cases bested its own, costlier Runco brethren. In terms of color accuracy and saturation I'm not sure it gets better than what I saw projected via the Q-750i. While LED-based projectors take their fair share of knocks for their less-than-perfect black levels compared to traditional LCD or D-ILA projectors, the Q-750i with the right screen proved to be as good and in some cases is actually better than its rivals.

The new Runco QuantumColor Q-750i LED projector is ready to ship. The DLP-based LED 1080p projector is one of the brightest LED projectors on the market for the home (at 700 ANSI lumens). Available with a plethora of optional lenses for ANY home theater install, the advantage of the LED-based projector, so says Runco, is that not only does it only lose only 10 percent of its light output over the life of the projector (projected to be over 20,000 hours), but also that it uses only 140 watts of power.
